In July 2007, Pope Benedict XVI issued his "motu proprio" Summorum Pontificum, which allows priests to celebrate the Roman Missal of 1962, which was the last edition of the Tridentine Mass practiced prior to the implementation of Vatican II. In doing so, the Pope encouraged the use of Latin during the Catholic Mass.
This kit responds to the Pope’s invitation by providing in one place the fundamental tools necessary to rekindle the use of Gregorian chant during the Mass as well as for other festive occasions. The material contained herein was developed for use as a teaching tool for a variety of audiences: bishops and priests desiring to conform with the wishes of the Pope by incorporating Latin in the Mass; choir directors and musicians wishing to enhance the use of Latin chant within their music ministry in their parishes; seminarians and religious who want to learn how to chant; and many others who have a passion for the blessing influence that Gregorian chant offers.
